JYFL FLAG FOOTBALL PROGRAM

The JYFL Flag Football program is an entry level program for K-2nd grade girls and boys to introduce them to basic football skills. The main focus of the program is to teach the players fundamentals, teamwork, and most importantly exercise and fun. 

The JYFL Flag season runs from late July to the end of September. Practices are usually held at the Miller fields (behind Glacier Valley School). Games are held on Saturday mornings at the Adair Kennedy field (adjacent to Floyd Dryden Middle School). Jerseys and Flag equipment are provided by JYFL as part of the registration fees. The coaches (parent volunteers) are on the field directing their teams as well as refereeing. There are no kicking plays. When a team has the ball, they run 4 consecutive plays, then the other team runs 4 consecutive plays.

There is no stiff arming, no hacking (swatting the hands of a flag puller), no blitzing or ‘crashing’. Defense cannot line up a defender over the center. A ball that hits the ground is a dead ball. Coaches have leeway on decisions such as ‘do-overs’, scoring plays etc. The score is not kept and should not be a focus of the games.

JYFL Flag Football is sponsored by the NFL Flag program powered by USA Football. In order to participate in JYFL Flag Football, parents must enroll their child in the NFL Flag program. You will be sent a link to the website after completing the registration process. 

JYFL encourages parents to be involved in coaching and assisting  for our youngest players as they begin their football experience. The number of JYFL Flag Football participants allowed to register is a direct result of the number of parent volunteers registered to coach and assist in this division.
